There’s so much confusing and often conflicting information about breastfeeding and newborn care out there. Spend a Saturday morning with Rooted Birth Doula Collective learning how to take care of your new tiny human!
This class will cover the basics of lactation:
how our bodies make milk
milk composition in the early days/weeks
the “Golden Hour” and first latch
proper latching techniques and positions
breast and nipple care
how to know your baby is getting enough milk
how to support the lactating parent
We will also cover these newborn care topics:
Daily Hygiene & Care: Techniques for bathing, umbilical cord care, circumcised/uncircumcised penis care, skin care, and diapering.
Safety & Health: Safe sleep environments, recognizing signs of illness, when to call the pediatrician, and car seat safety.
Feeding & Soothing: Breastfeeding, formula feeding, burping techniques, and calming a crying baby.
Physical Care: Proper ways to hold, burp, and swaddle a baby, as well as managing skin-to-skin contact and tummy time.
Parental Adjustment: Tips for managing sleep deprivation, postpartum recovery, and adjusting to life with a newborn.
The instructor is a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and birth and postpartum doula who has supported hundreds of families through birth and postpartum.
This class is $200 and includes admission for you and a partner/support person. We encourage the non-lactating partner/support to attend so they can know how best to offer help!
